Celebrating the Supervision Hack 3 victory - first place in the Depo Predator Challenge

The Challenge

The Depo Predator Challenge at Supervision Hack 3 presented a complex logistics optimization problem: determining optimal locations for distribution depots to maximize delivery efficiency while minimizing operational costs.

Traditional approaches to this problem rely on intuition and basic geographic analysis, but the challenge required a data-driven solution that could handle multiple variables including demand patterns, traffic conditions, seasonal variations, and cost constraints.

Winning Solution

I led a multidisciplinary team to develop an innovative ML solution that combined several advanced techniques:

  • Geospatial Machine Learning: Implemented spatial clustering algorithms to identify demand hotspots and optimal coverage areas
  • Demand Forecasting: Built predictive models using historical delivery data to anticipate future logistics needs
  • Multi-Objective Optimization: Developed cost functions balancing delivery speed, operational costs, and service coverage
  • Real-time Simulation: Created dynamic modeling system to test different scenarios and validate solutions

Technical Implementation

  • Data Processing: Cleaned and integrated multiple datasets including geographic data, traffic patterns, and historical delivery records
  • Feature Engineering: Created sophisticated features capturing spatial relationships, temporal patterns, and logistical constraints
  • Algorithm Development: Implemented custom optimization algorithms combining k-means clustering with genetic optimization
  • Validation Framework: Built comprehensive testing suite to validate solutions against real-world scenarios

Leadership & Team Coordination

Beyond technical contribution, I served as team leader, coordinating efforts across diverse expertise areas:

  • Strategic Planning: Defined project scope and allocated tasks based on team members' strengths
  • Technical Architecture: Designed system architecture enabling parallel development and integration
  • Presentation Leadership: Prepared and delivered winning presentation to competition judges
  • Time Management: Ensured delivery within tight hackathon timeframes while maintaining quality
